2005 Mercedes-Benz SL500

The 2005 Mercedes-Benz SL 500 represents an exceptional blend of timeless design, open-air enjoyment, refined V8 performance and sophisticated German engineering. Part of the celebrated R230 generation, the SL 500 delivers the comfort and security of a luxury coupe with the freedom of a convertible—all at the touch of a button.

Under the hood is Mercedes-Benz’s highly regarded 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8, producing 302 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a smooth seven-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, it offers effortless acceleration and composed grand-touring performance. Mercedes-Benz Active Body Control further enhances the experience by limiting body roll while preserving the smooth, comfortable ride for which the SL has long been known.

This CARFAX-certified, two-owner example has spent its entire pampered life in sunny, warm and dry Southern California—one of the best climates in the world for long-term vehicle preservation. CARFAX notes one minor incident involving superficial damage to the front spoiler in 2019. Otherwise, the exceptional condition of this SL reflects the thoughtful care it has received throughout its life.

The car is generously equipped, including one of our favorite options: a panoramic glass roof integrated into the power-retractable hardtop. An effective retractable sunblind allows occupants to enjoy the additional light and spaciousness when desired while providing welcome shade on brighter days. With the roof raised, the SL offers the refinement and security of a true luxury coupe; lower it, and the car transforms into an elegant open-air roadster.

This Mercedes-Benz was serviced recently, and both the tires and brakes remain in exceptional condition. Its presentation is so impressive that it could easily be mistaken for a vehicle with only a fraction of its age and mileage.

Perhaps most appealingly, the SL 500 appears to have reached the mature stage of its depreciation curve. That gives its next owner the opportunity to enjoy a beautifully engineered V8 roadster—one that can be admired and driven like a rolling work of art—without facing the steep depreciation associated with a new luxury vehicle.

If you have been searching for a remarkably preserved, well-optioned and properly cared-for SL 500, this exceptional Southern California example deserves your consideration.
